I need a bike light ...please read...?

I have a bike w/o lights. I already fixed a white light to the front....how can i make a red light for the back from home...its already dark outside and i have to go somewhere....I have a REFLECTOR on the back of my bike.....is this the red light everyone talks about having? And...I don't have a helmet...anything i can put on my head to LOOK like a helmet if a cop drives by? I know...i'm lame...Thank u for the answers in advance?

A real light is required, the reflector won't cut it. All states require a headlight and taillight for nighttime riding. For inexpensive options, K-mart & Wal-Mart carry one that's made by Bell. It has a steady setting and several flashing modes. It runs on AAA batteries and costs about $8.00

There are other options for headlight & taillight systems. Some can be pretty expensive, but they work great. Check out www.universalcycles.com. if you want to check them out.

As for the helmet, just get a real one.

If you're stuck where you are, you'd be better off making a phone call and getting a ride home rather than take a chance. (And I mean taking a chance on getting hit by a car, not taking a chance getting caught by the police. Chances are they wouldn't do anything anyway)

A reflector is fine----the red lights you may be doubtful of may be the blinking light kind---most are available in bike shops---check those sold at Jenson USA (www.jensonusa.com) and Cambria bikes (www.cambriabikes.com). Get those 'skatepark' kind of helmets at EBAY ( under Sporting Goods category---Helmet & Protective wear). They're light and cops would find you cool instead of harassing you! Enjoy!

Well it's dawn now so I guess you don't need a light anymore.

With the changeover from daylight savings time, I just got caught out in the dark for the first time in years without a light on my bike. Everytime a car came along I had to get off the road to let it pass. It was seriously scary

I suggest you visit your local bike shop and get an inexpensive front and back light for you bike. You can make yourself visible for very little cash outlay. While you are at it, pick up a helmet. They cost practically nothing in comparision to a visit in the neuro ward of your local hospital. It is always better to try on helmets to be sure if fits you. Once you find an acceptable skid lid, you can buy online.
