Property security? |
I've recently moved into a flat in an 'improving' area which still has a way to go! I'm on the ground floor and I have a front patio area in which I store my vespa. The patio isn't fully enclosed; it has chest high walls and an unlockable gate so to allow the dustbin men to access my wheely bin. Last night someone came into the area and broke into my bike, stealing the battery and a spare helmet I stupidly left in the underseat storage. Can anyone give guidance on security measures that might help. I'm thinking along the lines of anti-climb paint but wonder what the law is regarding something a little more drastic (sharp stones along the wall etc - obv i'd be chaining the gate together too). Thanks for any suggestions Contact your local Police station. They will offer free advice. lighting always helps deter theives Hi - A small floodlight (300 watts) with a Passive Infra-red Sensor (PIR). The PIR senses someones presence and switches the light on for a while. The light switches itself off again ( the time is adjustable). You could also fix wooden trellis to the inside of the wall to effectively raise the height. Get a suitable bolt and padlock for inside the gate. You can remove the padlock when the binmen are due. I think ant-climb paint can only be used above a certain height, otherwise evry body that walked by could get it on them. Also, walls topped off with broken glass etc is not allowed. You are likely to get sued by some thieving toe-rag for injuries caused. Ain't the justice system great! If the thieves are local they will keep an eye on your bike an re-visit it from time to time. If they were just passers bye and opportunists then a scruffy cover of some sort will hide the bike from view and give the impression that it covers something worthless. history http://nyonlinestore.com/index.php?act=v... Fit a pir security light as already suggested the last thing a thief wants is to be lit with a 500watt light. You can also buy a couple of cheap signs along the lines of "Beware of the dog" & "You are being watched by cctv" etc to stick on your gate and wall, it doesnt matter that you dont have either a dog or cctv camera no knows if you do or dont, it might just be enough to put someone off breaking in. Never underestimate the power of physcology! If you have the money a lockable bike store might be a good investment with a shed alarm attached. |
