Cyclists - deathwish? |
I was out on Saturday night in town and saw 4 cyclists wearing all dark colours, no light on the front, no helmet and a very dim red light on the back of their bikes. Are these people on a deathwish? Do you think it should be the law that all cyclists must: 1. wear a helmet 2. have lights (bright ones) on the front and back of their bike 3. wear reflective clothing or a reflective band at least I completely agree with you,also the law which prevents cyclists from riding on footpaths should be strictly enforced Well number two is a law... they were clearly breaking it! So yes, you should have mowed them down (smile) Yes it would be a good idea to make it law. Especially helmets and lights. U often don't see them until u r practically on top of them. Very unsafe. it was a deathwish! where there is no sense there is no feeling yeah of course, if u hit them ur still be in the wrong, what makes them 'invisible to the law yes, I also think they should have to take lessons, be licensed, and have to pay some road tax. And if they are riding anywhere near where my husband is driving, they had better read the highway code and ride responsibly. Good question Any cyclist over the age of 16 should have to have some form of 3rd party insurance. I have been involved with 2 collisions with stupid cyclists who ran through red lights. Both were ok but both gave me false details and in total have left me with repair bills topping 拢500.00. A good idea would be to put cycle insurance on top of car/house insurance, so at least some would be covered. Wearing of helmets would be impossible to police because there arnt enough police officers. There are three main offenders in my town (Manchester). 1, the daily commuters who have all the safety gear but for some reason dont understand the rules of obeying red lights and other traffic rules. 2, Chinese immigrant workers, who are regularly seen at 3:00am in the morning weaving about with dark clothing and no lights. They cant even read our laws let alone obey them! 3, the black tracksuit brigade on Bmx's who think its cool so therefore will never even look at a helmet because they wont be able to wear their hoodie. Address some of the above and accident levels will fall, then prosecute parents of children involved in accidents where they were not using any safety equipment, the message will soon get accross. I was recently involved in a job where a canadian kid was practicing a stunt on a Bmx and killed himself, he failed at the flip he was doing and smashed his skull on the pavement. you guessed right...no helmet. Some might say this was natural selection or an unemployment solution, others will say its the parents fault...you decide! |
