Is my motorbike license still valid? |
I passed my motorbike test in the mid '70's . At that time you could buy a bike up to 250cc and bung a set of L plates on it and once you thought you were proficient enough put in for a test and as long as you didn't fall off while the tester was watching you got your full license and could then ride anything you could affrord. I had some real tools ...BSA Rocket3 ..(leaked too much oil) so got a 750cc 2 stroke Kawasaki...(couldn't keep the front wheel down) so got a 900 Z1...(could get round bends fast enough) so got a.Ducati 900ss...( rusted away) so got a Laverda Jota 1000... (topped up too many endorsments) so bought a car,got married ,bought a house, had kids ...God I'm fed up..so will my old licese still allow me to ride any size bike and will my old Barry Sheen replica Black King helmet and visor still be legal? The validity of your licence will be shown on your licence itself. If you're not sure after checking your licence call DVLA on 0870 240 0009 & they will tell you. Your old Barry Sheen helmet is best left on the shelf, it would be unlikely to give you much in the way of protection compared to a modern helmet, things have moved on a long way since then! Recommended practice is that you replace your helmet every 3 - 5 years as the linings disintegrate with age & the shell weakens. You can get a reasonable helmet for under 拢100 so there's no excuse to skimp on this bit of kit. Your license is still valid - for any size bike. Providing your helmet does not have a tinted visor (forbidden at night-time) it is still legal also. New helmets (from a shop/trader) must be BS approved. Shouldn't see why not, after all as you say you passed uor test years ago,but just to be sure ask any of your local motorcycle dealers they would know for sure.Ride free and ride safe. Yes but take it easy this time! xx As long as you paid for the endorsement and kept it on you liscense, thay's the way it work in Ohio.I'm not sure where your at. Welcome back and ride safe.; My partner was the same as you so he contacted a bike school and did a 4 hour refresher course - he said that is the best thing he did as bikes are way different now not sure about your helmet but if it was me (being female) i wouldnt be able to resist the pull of the shop and go buy a new one lolol If you have group A on your current licence, you're still legal. But dump your helmet, it'll have deteriorated. Get a new one, with a clear visor. Traffic and bikes have changed a lot since we took our tests (mine was even before yours). I'd strongly suggest you take some training to bring yourself up to date - I did, and it probably saved my life. Made the insurers happier too! |
