I am looking to buy a 2007 Suzuki SV650S. So far this decisions has been been placed on price, insurance cost, easability in riding (based on what I have reasearched), and overall looks. Once I get to the dealership it will get my final approval based on the feel when I actually get on it. But assuming that I still love the feel of the bike, how do I begin the haggling process. This is the first bike for me and I don't want to be taken advantage of. Currently near where I live, Los Angeles area, one is being adverticed as a new 2007 for $6199 OTD. Could this really be an out the door price? Can I haggle on an OTD price? Am i only allowed to touch and sit on the bike at the dealership? Could I ask them to throw in gear in the deal such as a jacket or a helmet or something?
you can haggle for a bike just like you do for a car, you won't be able to haggle as much on a new bike as a used bike, but i would make shure they give you a few free oil changes, maybe a helmet or other freebees, the main thing is go in there let them know that your ready to buy today, and then if they can't give you what you want then make it obvious that your willing to go to another dealership, even if the bike you want is sitting in front of you. when i bought my last car i left the dealer 2 times. they called me back after the last time and we got within 100 dollars of where i wanted to be.
just before you go set a number in your head of what you want to pay. and stick with it.

bought a lot of vehicles decide on the price you want to pay, see what the dealer is offering. settle somewhere in between. you will be very lucky if the dealer gives you anything but the bike, unless he is hard up to sell , and that is unlikely. bikes are such a hot seller these days dealers don't have to haggle and they definitely don't have to give you any extras to make a sale. so just go in there with a good attitude and you'll come out alright with the bike you want.
