Ninja 500 or 650? |
I'm wondering if the 650 would have to much power for a beginner. I'm 5'11 and about 190 - 200 pounds. I have a little experience on a dirt bike but not to much. Also definetly not looking to show off by going very fast or trying any type of stunt. I WILL be taking the MSF course (or possibly that BRC course) before anything and also buying gear (helmet, gloves, etc..) I love the looks of the ninja 650r and want to get it eventually anyway. So i was wondering if you thought it would be safe to get it and take it real slow for however many months atleast so i have the basics covered well enough so im comfortable around highways speeds. Go for the 650. I don't think it will have too much power for you. You'll get bored with the 500. 650 it hides better If you take it slow and responsible you should be fine on the 650 if you get the 500 you will get bored with it in 2 months i learned to ride on a 07 gsx-r600 and im looking at 1000 only 2 months later. If you're going to take the training courses before getting the bike, and will be taking it mainly around the city for a while to get a feel for how it rides, then go for the 650. I've taken one out along the highway a couple of times already, and it's a fairly easy to handle bike, as long as you don't speed excessively beyond your handling capabilities, or whenever the cops will take notice of you, whichever comes first ;) people who are learning to ride.... Im not going to go fast & do stunts... once I know how to ride I will start to go faster.. the problem here is that you wont know you dont have enough skill untill you suddenly need it..(that tin top is coming pretty fast) not much time to realise you made an error of judjment & should have bought the 250 to learn on.... buy a cheap second hand 250 & learn to ride( everyone throws bikes down the road, even me, cheap ones dont matter so much) you will be amazed how fast 250cc bikes go!! in a years time when you have an IDEA, you can trade it in on a better bike.... 35 years riding & counting.. just read Gixxer... Im thinking he wont be around in another 2 months( He may be lucky) but Id bet the other way.. Since you are taking the MSF class (or its equivalent), I would say go for the Ninja 650. Personally, I feel it's a better bike than the 500 even without the extra 150cc. Take it easy at first until you are comfortable with the bike's handling. The slower and smarter you advance, the less chance of getting bit. But the MSF class will teach you a lot about riding. That will probably be your best investment in all your riding career. |
