How long will my insurance claim take to go through? What will happed if I just fix my sportbike myself? |
Had a collision with a van on my sportbike, not sure who is going to be found at fault. I gave my recorded statement to my insurance company two days ago, and the guy said that he would call the other persons insurance company and get a statement from them. If they are found at fault I believe they will have to pay for my repairs.... otherwise I'll fix it myself. The damage to my bike wasn't that bad: The front stay cracked at the mounting point and needs to be replaced: $190 from the dealer, less off ebay. The upper fairing is a little scuffed... it honestly looks ok and I could touch it up to the point where it is not so noticable. $155 to have it painted and order new decals. Forks are slightly twisted in the triple trees,need to loosen front end and realign. My $500 helmet needs to be replaced. Other than that, end of mirrors slightly scuffed, right footpeg bent, left signal light slightly scuffed, brake lever slightly bent. It would be best to wait for them to come to an agreement on the cost of the repairs. You can fix the bike anywhere, or you can do it yourself. Take pictures of the bike beforehand if the insurance company has not done so already. Keep all receipts for anyparts that you buy to prove expenses in case you want to argue for a higher payment. The bonus is the insurance company will include labor costs into the repair, so you may be left with a few extra dollars. Make sure you take photos first, and keep all the old parts and new receipts. the insurance company will cut you check for any out of pocket expense you encrue above your deductible. Make sure you save receipts and any work orders, insurance companies always want these |
