had a gnarly wreck on the mt. bike a few days ago. fell hard on my left side bruising most of those ribs and landing hard on my shoulder, had a helmet on too luckily which left and imprint in the dirt. since then its been really hard to lift my arm above my head and picking up so much as a pillow or glass of water is very difficult, even reaching for the stearing wheel is hard but i can do it. What have i torn up? ive previously had two dislocations on the same shoulder so i know how that feels and this is not that painful but im having the same loss of motion as i had w/ the dislocations. the whole shoulder and even my armpit hurts. Any ideas what i might have done?
There is a possibility that you may have torn your rotator cuff in your shoulder, have a physician check it out. Or because you landed hard on your shoulder you may have pulled muscles and/or ligaments in your shoulder and this can sometimes lead to "frozen shoulder syndrome". If you continue to just wish it away, doesn't happen, it only gets worse with time. Physical therapy, a tinge unit, heat, cold, and steroid injections are the only course of action.
You will probably have to get it x-rayed to get it figured out for sure. Don't wait too long. If you don't keep it moving, it can "freeze" up.
I would suggest you go to the local hospital to get it x rayed as if left calcium builds up and long term problems will result. my ex had a bike accident he had x ray but nothing important showed up 6 months later his shoulder played up and found out it had in deed fractured and calcium had grown on the bone causing him immense pain on his shoulder he had surgery in the end to correct the undiagnosed error. go asap to get it looked at. good luck.
