What do the bicycle helmet sizes stand for? I'm looking at Pro-Tec helmets in particular...?

I'm shopping around for Pro-Tec bicycle helmets. They only say small, medium, large, x-large. How can I figure out how big they are based on the size listed and whatever helmet I have now? Are all "mediums" the same size, and all "x-larges" the same?

the sizes stand for the size of your head...all helmets have a 'size' list somewhere....so either check out the helmet site or go to a bike shop and look there...not all helmets are going to be a 'standard' size...if they're made in the US they might be, but if they're made overseas, then the sizes are different.
Measure your head (ABOVE your ears, don't slant the tape, make sure it's straight...)
best way to check: go to your local bike shop and try some on... you can compare that way the best.

there are a few industry standards, but they are not perfect, so try some on.
