Is there anyway to not feel dorky when I wear a bicycle helmet? |
Is there anyway to not feel dorky when I wear a bicycle helmet? I'm afraid the answer is NO!!! Nobody looks good in a cycle helmet but lets face it, its part and parcel of cycling these days. (a few years ago people used to walk about with their trousers tucked into their socks - that's dorky!) I do wear a helmet but as I have stressed on another Answer, I do object the view that if you don't wear one and you have a small accident you will end up a brainless vegetable. Just like gloves and glasses, a helmet is just a form of protective equipment, it doesn't prevent anything, but something is better than nothing! Hope this helps. I wear Lycra(as its more commonly known in the UK) and I feel all self conscious now!!!! You shouldn't feel dorky at all. First of all today's helmets look good. Second of all I think when you wear a helmet you look like someone you takes the sport more seriously. Third and most important....it protects yer melon. The real dorks are the people that don't wear helmets. actually I like it because I feel safe and I see people without helmets and start thinking of crashes that they could have get a skateboarding or bmx helmet they look cooler they have tons of colors and they make u look like u are good at riding even if ur not me I ride BMX Take a look at both pictures below and decide for yourself which is more dorky. Helmets are cheap insurance. All it takes is a moment's inattention, by you or someone else, to turn you into a drooling quad. Or worse. I ride and race thousands of miles a year, and like most experienced riders, won't mount up without one. When I pass someone on the trail without a helmet, I think to myself "Have to be careful of this dork, they obviously don't know what they're doing." Yes, I've broken a few helmets over the years.
