Hockey (goalie) helmet for cycling/biking use? Will the face guard protect teeth from "face plant" impact? |
In lieu of a "regular" full face BMX or bike helmet, will a hockey helmet with a face "cage" protect my jaw from injury, on a face-down fall from a bicycle? They are both tested to different standards... A goalie helmet is made to take different impacts than a bike helmet, and bike helmet testing is VERY rigorous. I would definetly recommend getting a full-faced bike helmet if you're worried about safety. This is not a good expense to skimp out on... Good luck Source(s): work in a bike shop it should as long as all of the mounting equipment is properly attached to the cage. it won't prevent pain, as the cage naturally sits on your chin, so there will be impact felt on the chin. you should wear a mouth guard as well. this will prevent the dental impact, which is a very large factor in concussions. i think the premise of a BMX helmet is that it does not rest on your chin, so it will help eliminate this impact. You'd look dorky wearing a hockey helmet biking!! Buy the BMX/downhill helmet.... |
