What is the solution for a city that wishes for drivers to share the road with cyclists?

The rules for cyclists are vague. They're allowed to get away with violations that drivers cannot, yet drivers pay the road taxes. Cyclists are mandated to pay road tax and will be sent to prison if they accidently hit a cyclist, even if he or she is not within the bicycle zone...even if the cyclist is not wearing a helmet. This is grossly unfair. What would be a good compromise for drivers to share the road with cyclists?

How about the cyclists all take the damn BUS to work and stay out of the roadways. Until these morons can squeeze the funds out of city hall to build themselves their own road they need to stop pretending they can share the road with cars. Nothing but denial (or a death wish).
If road taxes are the criteria, then cars shouldn't share the road with trucks, which pay a lot more taxes than cars!

You know what's not fair? Having to share the road with vehicles that pollute, cause tens of thousands of deaths annually, and keep people from being in shape.

The rules are:

1. Cyclists follow all rules of the road, including stopping, yielding, going the right direction, etc. Cops should give tickets to cyclists who break rules. This step is essential.

2. Motorists give each cyclist at least 5 feet clearance when they pass. Failure to do so is deemed "assault", just like when they get out of their vehicle to come after you, or when they deliberately try to run you off of the road.

3. Motorists need to stop hating slower vehicles. There is a "predator" response that sets in with some that says, "That thing shouldn't be on my road since I'm bigger and faster." It's a branch of road rage.

Become a cyclist so you can stop WHINING!
I personally think that certain streets should be designated NO BIKE zones, such as high traffic flow streets such as streets leading to freeway on-ramps, and so on. Other than that, I don't really see much problem of cars and bikes coexisting.

But then, I live in San Francisco. :)
We have bike lanes, and they work well..good luck!
