I bought a bike helmet and it was the right size according to the size chart, but it seems high when i look..?

at it. There's like an inch between my ear and my helmet when I wear it. Is this a bad thing? It's a Giro and idk, seems pretty high, maybe my heads just long.

It may depend a bit on the helmet a bit. I wear a 7 1/4 hat size and I have 2 medium gyro helmets that fit me perfectly.
If the top of your head is contacting the top of the helmet and it isnt too tight on the sides, you may have the right size. Another option would be to take it back, but i'm guessing you bought it online since you used a size chart (so go to the local bike shop and try on some from the same brand). You might need to go up a size and cinch it down if you have more of an oval (narrow but tall) head, but this will add some weight.

Better shops sell more than one brand of helmet. Try on several and find the one that fits you best. If a Giro doesn't fit you well, try a Bell or a Specialized or any of the other reputable helmet makers out there.

The best would be a helmet that fits close enough to the head that it will not rattle around as you ride, but no so snug that it presses painfully into your skull. Also, it should NEVER interfere with your normal field of vision, especially when the brow of the helmet is in the right place (about half an inch above your eyebrows).
If you are like me it's the right size, we just look funny in them. :)
i just went and got a helmet and i had to try on alot to rined the right one don't just go by the charts what you want to do is try it on and see if when you shake your head dose it seem loos at all move around alot you want the helmit to be a snug fit like a good pair of rideing gloves i hope this helps you can always to to the store where they sell them and ask the sells person what they think
