How old do babies have to be before they can wear helmet? |
I mean for a bicyle seat that fits on the back of my bike? There's no minimum age! As soon as the child is of the size/weight/developmental stage to fit properly in the seat and its restraints, they should have a helmet. The laws also vary by state, so you'll have to check into that. Here are related articles: http://www.ibike.org/education/infant.ht... http://www.helmets.org/little1s.htm... http://www.aap.org/family/thelmabt.htm... once they start doing stunts i'd give them a helmet http://www.webmd.com/search/search_resul... i would wait till it's a year old so it can hold up it's head really well and be able to control it when you hit bumps. Ask a doctor they might know. I'd think that as soon as they can support their necks, I've heard of newborns who have a flat head (from where they sleep on it) and wear helmets while they sleep to fix this problem, so a bicycle helmet shouldn't be a problem, just a little advice go to a store that sells them in your area and find out the smallest size helmet that they make for a kid and that will be a good indication what age it is appropriate for a baby to wear one At least old enough to hold the weight of the helmet on their head. If they drop their chin or tilt their head backwards when the helmet is on, it is hurting their neck muscles and should be removed. Do you really think you should involve an infant in an activity that is risky enough to require a helmet? Just a thought. at least a year...has to be able to hold his head up.....maybe a year and a half |
