Biking Accessories? |
Im about to go to college and I want to make sure I have all the supplies I need for biking. I have a U-Lock that cannot be opened by a BIC, bike glasses, helmet, odometer and patching supplies. What else do I need? Make sure your lock will reach both wheels and frame if you have quick release type skewers. Also, I would recommend getting your seat collar changed to a bolt on type if it is quick release as well. Front wheels and Saddles/seat posts are two of our most often sold items in our shop come school time. A bolt on seat collar costs about 5$ and a standard bolt on axle can be installed on most hubs in place of the Skewer (by a mech) for about 10$. I would recommend doing the front one then you only have to lock the rear wheel and frame. It also leaves a quick release on the back which is easier to line up the wheel and or remove if a flat or tire problem happens. I would also invest in a decent backpack for your equipment and 'stuff' that is of illuminite material. Great for carrying that 'stuff' and very visible in low light or at night. Source(s): racer, rider, wrench Water bottles, tyre levers, a small multi tool for on the road fixes, and spare tubes. Riding clothing is also a nice thing to have, though it can run you more expensive. Depending on where you are going, a nice cycling jacket might be worth it. Even an inexpensive Sugoi or Giordana rain cape (clear, cheap plastic) will work. They run around $20, and can be easily stuffed in a pack. Great suggestions so far. I'd like to add if you'll be riding in cool/cold weather full fingered gloves (don't have to be biking gloves) that fit snuggly so you can break and shift. Head band to keep your ears and forehead warm under your helmet. If your going to U of Miami or USC etc. forget what I said! i don't have accessory advice, but here's a tip: i'd bring the bike into your room at night. i just had a piece of crap bike during college, but once my tire was slashed and another time the entire wheel frame was bent. drunkards staggering home at nite seem to vandalize anything they can. if you have a good bike, i'd be careful where you leave it! |
