Cost Of Buying A Motorcycle? |
I am in the process of investigating owning a motorcycle in the state of Arizona. I am curious, besides of course the cost of a bike and helmet, what are the total costs for purchasing a bike. I understand about insurance, and i hear that progressive is decent enough.I'm curious about whether or not theres endorsements necessary, whether i need to take any special classes (although i most likely will anyway), and any costs through the DMV to claim complete ownership of the bike. Any help would be Greatly Appreciated! Thanks Guys I live in Phoenix and dont know what part of Az you are in but around phoenix the cage drivers suck!!! Driving here is a contact sport!!! definately take the motorcycle safety foundation course, and buy a bike that you can get both feet flat on the ground when sitting. you have to get a motorcycle endorsment that means a written test as wll as a test on a closed curcuit. not that hard, find someone to ride with [separate bikes] untill your good . You will need to pass a driving test in AZ to get your motorcycle endorsement. It will take you some practice to be able to pass it (unlike some other states). Usually you can find a motorcycle safety course that will even lower your insurance costs. If you use Progressive, be sure you know you are supporting MoveOn.org. If that floats your boat, go ahead. If not, there are many other companies to choose from. Helmets are a great idea...but not mandated in AZ. Buy it from a private party and pay no sales tax...buy from a dealer and you'll pay tax. Registration/license fee isn't much. Lived there until this year...with motorcycles. Lucky you. I too live in Arizona, Go Sun Devils. I am old. I have had a bike (motorcycle, for you lame brains out there) sine 1967. Had me a fair share of accidents. Now I'm a retired cop. Seen way to many m/c accidents. Now to the question. Three things AGE, TICKETS and does the bike say CROTCH ROCKET????????? If your are old, don't have any tickets and you got an old Harley, insurance won't be to bad. But life insurance ain't a bad idea. And boy is that asphalt hot in the summer!! I ride a motorcycle in Arizona. There's the cost of the motorcycle and the protective gear, boots, helmet, gloves, jacket, etc. I strongly recommend you take a MSF approved basic rider course, which will run about $200. You ride their bikes and if you pass, you do not have to take the written or skills test from the state. Once you have your completion slip, it costs $6 I think, to get the motorcycle endorsement added to your license. Riding a bike without one is the same as driving a car without a license. Good luck and be safe. Decent gloves are a must, (leather or better) and you shouldn't ride without boots. In Arizona I guess you can get away without wet weather gear, but you'll probably want some sort of luggage. |
