Would bicycle helmets in cars do a better job than seat belts and air bags?

It's the side impact that produces the most injuries and deaths. The helmets cost only a fraction of what air bags cost. Now I'm against any government intrusion when it comes to protecting me from me but helmets would produce a lot more bang for the buck.

If you notice, it is the side impact injuries NOW, as a result of airbags and seatbelts. Before them it was being thrown from the vehicle and injuries from the steering column. I would definitely say something like side air bags would be a good addition. But you still need the seat belts and air bags.
More people die from internal injuries that head injuries...had they worn seatbelts and had airbags this number would have been nominal and the helment arguement would be more valid!
I don't think that it could ever replace either. Well, I take the back, may be the airbag but no way in hell could it replace the seat belt. Seatbelts keep you from being thrown out of the car and doing the superman for a few seconds before you hit the pole or wall on the side of the road. Something that I would never want to do, helmet or no helmet!

Something that it's very interesting and that most people don't know, it's that according statistics used by motorcycle right groups, head injuries are a whole lot more frequent in car accidents than in motorcycle accidents. I think that they got those facts from the DOT. Isn't that something? They (law makers) makes us wear helmets on motorcycles but not in cars. I'm not b1tching, I believe in helmets and would wear one on a motorcycle even if it wasn't the law.
Seat belts being #1. Keeping you from being thrown around is most important. States have had to pass laws to get people to use them. Getting people to wear a helmet would be very difficult. Any time you add a protective Item like a helmet you definitely increase your odds of survival. My son died as a result of a Side Impact collision. He did not have any head injuries but rather his body was crushed from his ribs down to his pelvis. Only by improving the structure to the side of a vehicle would have improved his survivability. It is my opinion that in order to save lives on our highways, Every driver should Have Mandatory Driver Education, Automobile Safety needs to focus on the person behind the wheel of the vehicle. In his case a 16yo girl who just got her license, No driver training, was crossing a highway in which there was construction markers restricting the view to the right side. Had she known to ease forward until she could see the drunk that was speeding his jeep down the highway, her passenger, my son, would still be alive. We can do a lot to the actual vehicle but we need to do more to educate the people that operate them.
No, becuase even though you might protect the top of your head that way, you'd still go through the front or side window and get cuts. Where as with air bags and should belst, if an air bag opens up, all you get is a burned nose, and some fumes. Believe me, I know about the burned nose part.
I'd suggest full-face DOT approved helmets. Bicycle helmets are for low-speed impact. Falling off you bike, for instance.
The only effective restraint is the four-point system used in military aircraft. I'm for that, too.
