Injurious Lying?

Hi
I'm worried that I might have committed a mortal sin by lying. What is meant by an injurious lie? The lie I told was basically telling my mum that I was doing an extra paper round to cover up the fact that I was going to a bike repair shop to get a quote for my bike. I didn't want her or my dad to know about it because they always get angry at me. I said I would be late because of the extra paper round which I didn't do, not because I went to the bike shop.
Please help, would that only be an officious lie?

All sins are mortal.

I would want more information. Were you mis-stating so that you could avoid unpleasant consequences--and were the consequences unfair? Was it so you could preserve the parents' peace of mind? Was it essential for you to get the quote on the bike, or was it a frivolity? Were the potential consequences dire?

I tend to hold up Kant's Categorical Imperative: you should do what is most likely to make the world a better place. If the lie promoted our common good, then don't worry. If it was selfish and constituted a defection, then knock it off.

Yes, that is a lie and a sin. Ask God to forgive you, He will and try not to lie to your mom and dad. This is not a mortal sin, you cannot go to hell for it. The only way you go to hell is by not asking Jesus into your heart.

It is not mortal.
But repeatedly asking about it is becoming tiresome.

Christian theory= "Repent now because you have broken a commandment and must ask for forgiveness or go to hell!"

Start researching and educating yourself on your family's religion. It will set you free.

Good works cannot attain you salvation. No matter how good you are, or how many good things you do, nothing will save you from your sins and earn you a place in Heaven except for Jesus Christ. Trusting in Him will gain you salvation. If you believe that He died on the cross, and trust that only neither works nor ways of man can save you, only God, then your sins are ultimately forgiven. The common misconception is that good works attain you a place in Heaven: this is wrong, and a very dangerous way of thinking. It says in the Bible that those who believe in Him and put the full weight of their trust in Him will have eternal life!!

all lying is the same...just repent..

lying is lying officious or unofficious!. The need to tell a lie means that you feel you did a wrong deed. And the only way to undo that is to tell the up front and apologize. A lie told in order to save a life worth saving, in order to save someone from hurt if otherwise they would get injuroured, is still a lie. But, god might forgive us for those told, because, we did so to protect not to mislead.

Lying isn't that bad that I knew when I saw Rabbis doing it.

If your parents are unreasonable about you going to a bike shop, then thats called a white lie.

An "Injurious Lie" is when you hand someone a gun and tell them it's unloaded when it most assuredly is not.
