Dealer or independent mechanic?

i decided to take my new used bike to a custom bike shop owned independently. I have heard that dealerships rip you off and labor costs are massive. I don't trust either to be honest. what is your opinion? with a dealer you pay more, but with the other guy there is always a risk that my parts end up on other peoples bikes and vice versa.

i am an independent and i have seen other independents with very poor work. i have also seen them with very good work. my best advice is to get references and several of them. most references will complain about prices, but if they do bad work they will tell you that before complaining about price.

dealer is good but very costly as compare to independent mechanic . Indepedent mechnic should be trustful... But in independent mechanic you can have work on your bike in frront of you . no chance of cheating and r fully under control...

A good independent is worth his weight in gold. His labor rates are usually lower and he depends on his reputation to stay in business. Do a little foot-work and ask around, find out what other riders are saying.

both dodgey really but yu have more come back on a dealer than an idependent mechanic.
