Can you help me with some motorcycle advice? |
I live in Nassau County, Long Island NY, and I am interested in buying a motorcycle. Which bikes would be good to learn on, where are good places for me to shop(new or used, as long as it's a good deal), and what kind of training should I go to? Take an MSF course. If you feel that you're truely interested in riding after this course, then start with something small. Master a small bike before making a decision to buy a bigger bike that genrally would cost more to buy and more power to handle. People who master smaller bikes gain more skills than those who don't start on smaller bikes. Look into a 250 ninja to start out on. cheap to buy, not a pain in the *** to maintain, and when you've mastered that and you're ready to move up, the bike has pretty good resale value. Go to site below you can learn a lot there free watching and listening to the video audios. When there look for video that says "What new riders should know and buy" for starters but they let you watch and learn all of them for free. Start with a Motorcycle Safety Foundation riding course before you buy anything. Believe it or not many people go out and buy a bike only to find out they either do not like riding, are afraid of the bike, are afraid of the traffic, do not have the balance or motor skills to ride, can not pass the test for the license, or any number of other issues stop their riding. For some it's monkey see monkey do syndrome. They see all the bikes out there or they see it as a status symbol and go out and buy. Look at all the 3 or 4 year old very, very low mileage Harleys setting in front of houses for sale. Start low budget and work up. I am also from NYC and if you are interested in bikes I would highly suggest that you enroll yourself in the MSF course you will learn valuable lessons and upon completion you will get your license. You may want to try NY Motorcycle which is located at 222 Jamaica avenue they usually have a good selection of used bikes. it all depends on what you want out of a bike and you do need training that any dealership offers |
