GT avalanche bicycle 2.0 2005 or GT avalanche 3.0 2008? |
Hey guys, well i have a dilemma, i was offered a GT avalanche 2.0 used for $250, [its fine besides the rims, one of them is a little bent]. And i am also considering getting a 3.0 brand new at a bike shop foe around $400. I am new to the bike world, here are the specs, what are you suggestions? anything would be helpful There really isn鈥檛 a significant difference in componentry, which would cause me to lean toward the 2005 (at $250 it best be a pretty sweet bike), if it really is fine but it鈥檚 difficult to say without seeing it in person. I have a slight concern with the comment about a 鈥渂ent rim鈥? Some things can be trued in a wheel truing stand ( ~$15 labor) but if it鈥檚 actually bent replacement could be around $100. Your $250 bike is now $350. You should also be concerned about chain, cranks, tires and bearing wear. Depending on how much this bike has been ridden, a 3 year old bike might be due for some TLC and an overhaul. This the overhaul could be $75-150 labor, and cranks, chain cassette etc probably in the $100+ range. The advantage of the used bike, is it鈥檚 a low cost entry point, but with risks. The new bike although more expensive you get piece of mind, but if you hate cycling you just spent $400+ on bike and accessories and your likely only to get about $300 for the bike if you try to sell it. |
