1997 Harley-davidson Fatboy front brake rattles.?

I have replaced the pad in the front brake, and replaced the spring that holds the pad tight. Even after these replacements the front brake still rattles when i run over any bumps. To me, it doesn't seem like the pad is big enough. They just seem like they are sloppy in the caliber. i have talked to people at the Harley shop and they say this year of bike is notorious for this problem and that i would have to replace the whole brake caliber in order to fix it. any help would be great!!!

Make sure the screw that holds the pad retainer on the inside isn't loose. Another thing are the o rings that the slider mounting pin goes through if there missing the caliper will be loose. Your statement they just seem sloppy in the caliper doesn't sound like stock to me I'm assuming you have stock Harley calipers. Unless you installed the pad with the spring clip incorrectly I can't think of much else that will rattle. Harley's calipers from 84 Thur 99 were a much needed improvement from earlier ones and although they provide stopping power there are better ones out there such as pm, I've never had a complaint about them rattling when they are working correctly, stock ones that is.

your rotor might be warped

Their about right A PM would be better and look better any way im sure you noticed the holes are to big for the pins
no real fix

Try taking some silicone sealer and glue the pad to the piston. It's not super strong but it helped stop rattling pads on my bike.

pull your front pad back out (the one with the tab at the top) but now push it back in from the inside out (rotor side to the piston side) with the spring in between the pad tab and the top of the pad frame. You pushed it in from the piston towards the rotor without engaging the spring that's why you hear the spring rattling.
