we return again to those love-stricken newlyweds from problem 46 sanjay and aditi. we represented the cost of renting a bike for t hours at each shop with an algebraic sentence. at beau's bikes the cost was y= 10t at celine's cycles it was y= 4t + 15.

a)sanjay and aditi are now trying to determine the amount of time t at which the cost of renting a bike is the same for both companies. help them by determining this amount of time.

b) if they plan to rent for only two hours.wich company should they choose?

a) set both equations equal to each other solve for t
10t = 4t + 15
subtract 4t from both sides
6t = 15
divide by 6
t = 15/6 = 2 1/2 hours
answer:
2 1/2 hours

b) t=2
at beaus, 10t = 10(2) = 20 bux
at celines, 4t + 15 = 4(2) + 15 = 8 + 15 = 23 bux

so it is cheaper to rent at beau's for 2 hours
answer: beau's

a)y = 10t
y=4t+15
10t=4t+15
6t=15
t=5/2

b) at beau's y=10(2)=$20
at Celine's y=4(2)+15=$23
so go to beau's
