Kestrel RT700, $2000 - good deal?

I'm so close to buying this thing. Looked at a local shop, and any carbon frame bike in the same price range has 105 shifters, no carbon crank, and/or heavier shimano wheels. Any opinions?

Very nice heck yea well worth 2K Kestrel makes great bikes and it's loaded with great parts!!

I am not familiar with this brand here in the UK but I have looked about on various sites, I think it's ok!, even if if you keep it for a couple of years. It seems to be kitted out resonably well and the only thing I could see worth changing is the wheels, but we all do that anyway!

Big brand names mean 'diddly-squat' to me and often reflect just a name - Kestrel claims to have over 20years CF experience - If they were crap they would have folded long ago.

My opinion: Worth a try!

Kestrel is a well respected CF company. They had their problems early on as most companies that worked with the stuff but it is all in the past.

Personally, I would take the carbon cranks off the bike and hang them on the wall... I have tried just about all of them and the weight savings you might enjoy is more than offset by the spaghetti-like flexing. Some are better than others, but none as good as good old aluminum alloy. the FSA cranks on the bike are not so hot and actually cost less than Ultegra- for a reason.

I think if I had the choice of drivetrain and could only have Shimano, 105 would be my second choice after Ultegra.

Is the bike worth it? For $2K, yes.
