Does my motorcycle have a killswitch?

I just bought last fall, and haven't had a chance to work on it, diagnostics as per the shop manual are hard because I can't remove some covers. (seems the last owner tightened them down pretty stiffly)
So it wont' start, starter solenoid is good, I just replaced it, and when i cross the solenoid terminals the bike turns over, but it won't turn over when I use the normal starter... suggestions?

PS: I've never ridden or owned a bike, and have no idea what I'm doing, any and all tips would be really awesome.

have to agree ... please list make, model, year and size of bike ... most of us that will take the time to give you a somewhat intelligent answer will go look at a mechanical / electrical diagram, make a determination of what's wrong, then answer your question... right now, all we know is that it's a bike, with an electric start that won't engage...

so, more than likely, there is either an emergency kill switch, ignition swith, or some other sensor that prevents the starter to engage (like a kick stand sensor, clutch perch sensor, various other sensors, etc.) or faulty wiring causing the starter to not engage... really could be difficult to trouble shoot from this side of a keyboard...

I would highly recommend getting a shop / service manual for your specific bike and that will help you better understand what might be going on.

red kill switch in on the right hand and the bike has to be in netural to start. thats all you shuold have to do to start it. Down is on and up is off for the kill switch.

FYI, you should always list what make, model, year and size of a bike so we have enough info to help you (or try to help you)...

my initial guess would be there is a kill switch or ignition switch (like for a key) that is turned off or not working. likewise, there could be a short somewhere in the wiring...

probably the best advice I can give you is find a good service repair manual, like a clymer or Haynes that covers your particular make, model, size and year bike...

I would need more info to give much more direction... sorry!

just make sure the red shut-off switch is in the run position and the bike is in neutral and pull in the clutch ,some bikes also have a safety switch located under the bike so if the kick stand is down the bike will not start

there's all kinds of interruptor switchs, you need a manual or take it to a shop and pay big money. good luck

Just about every motorcycle has a kill switch.
If the kill switch is in the stop position, when pressing the start button, the engine will still turn.
The kill switch just stops power from going to the ignition system and prevents the spark plug from firing.
If you're saying the engine will not spin when the start button is pressed - either the start button is bad or disconnected.
If you had posted what bike you had, I could have told you what wire to test.
Purchase a shop manual

The kill switch is usually on the handlebar, on the right hand side.

At least it has been on every bike I've ever owned and seen.

So if you have one you should be able to see it.

kill switch big red switch put to run,
might have a faulty side stand switch,
faulty clutch switch,
bike make & model would help
