I have a bike with an e-13 DRS chainguide. The chain jumps down to the first ring. what should i do?

The bike came stock with the guide. The setup is listed on the company's (haro bikes) website, so i know that the bike and guide are compatible. The chain constantly jumps down ot the first ring and even off of the chainset when i go over bumps. Since this behavior is what a chainguide is supposed to prevent, something is wrong with the piece of crap. It got good reviews so maybe the guys at the bike shop set it up wrong.

Hey TBS,

There are two things that may be wrong. First the front derailleur may not be adjusted correctly. The it sounds like the front derailleur is over shifting or not adjusted correctly over your two chainrings, so you are dropping your chain when you hit the rocks and bumps.

Second try loosening the three ISCG screws on the boomerang and rotate it clockwise so the bottom stepped chain tension roller moves up putting more tension on the chain. Then tighten the ISCG screws and readjust the lower tension roller. If you are using a non ISCG boomerang, just loosen your drive side Bottom Bracket cup and rotate the boomerang clockwise until you have the right chain tension.

It is probably the front derailleur that is causing the problem, so check that first. Oh, ya remember this E-13 DRS is made for a dual chainring set-up, it wont work for a single chainring set-up. Good Luck.

I once had the same problem with a bike I owned.

I solved the problem by taking a link or two out of the chain. This made the chain tighter and stopped the chain slipping off.

Hope this helps.

I agree with shep6965, but I would also look at your chain rings. I change my chain rings once a year, otherwise if I don't my chain starts to pop off every time I start to hammer on the crank. New chain rings coast around $15 to $35.
