Do I need to take my bike to the shop?

I have a 07 v star 1100. I want to know if there is any thing I need to have done to my bike? It almost has 10,000 miles on it. I change the oil every 3,000 miles but I have not done any thing else to it. It runs great but is there anything I need to do to it at 10,000 miles

check out www.65occnd.com

if its running good your doing well i have a 2002 v star 1100 never have adjusted the valves , but i have put a hypercharger and custom pipes , it roars like a hog , i have fouled the plugs at times ......

Not really.

You can bleed the brake fluid and check the chain to see if it is adjusted.

Replace tires when they get worn and drive it.
If it was a harley I would recomend taking it to a shop imeadiatly because the oil isn't leaking. LOL

Keep up the maint. on it and it will go for a very long time. 10,000 miles is nothing that a Yamaha can't handle. You might check the valves but keep up on the maint. and Ride it like you stole it.

Read your manual, it will tell you if you need any type of additional maintenance.

That some riding. Did you put it all one yourself? Here's are things that might start to need adjustment at 10,000.

Syncronize the carbs. You only need to do this if you've noticed an increase in vibration at steady speeds compared to what their used to be. (Which, with this bike, is almost none)

Adjust the valves. Only do this if you've noticed increased knocking and pinging. By now you know that some "ticking" is normal for this bike. So that doesn't automatically mean valve job. ONLY if there is an increase to what you already have.

Lube the rear splines. Do this EVERYTIME you change the rear tire.

PS: and EDIT......DON"T bleed the brakes. There is absolutely no reason to do this. Even when you change the pads you don't need to bleed the brakes. Get a Clymers manual. You will be surprised how much stuff you can do on your own bike even if you only have minor mechanical aptitude.

At 10,000 miles...not really. You can check your chain for defects and enough lube/wax, check/top off your other fluids and replace tires if needed.

If it was mine, I would take it in the shop and have the valves checked and any other service they feel is necessary. It's best to take it in now before the riding season gets here, the service shop will take their time and check everything.

did you take the bike in for service after the 500 mile break in period. you should take it to the dealer and have them do a full service on the bike.

The V-star needs regular valve adjustments. At 10,000 miles you should have had it done twice already. Don't wait! Get it done - and top it off with a carb sync.

Did you read your owner's manual?????

If you're getting less than 40 miles per gallon, you should clean your air filter (if it's cleanable) or replace it.

You should also inspect the spark plugs, clean off the crud, and make sure the gap is correct to spec.
