Do most modern bikes (bought at a bike store) have removeable front wheels? |
Do most modern bikes (higher quality, like at a bike store) have easily removeable front wheels? Long story: I bought an Electra Townie that has an easily removeable front wheel. This is great, as it lets me transport my bike inside a small car. (Yes, I know I could get a bike rack, but the problem is that I am at work all day before I go out of town, and anyone could steal the bike right off the rack - or steal the rack inself! The bike needs to be inside the car) I am returning the Townie today for a more appropriate bike for me, but am concerned about finding another bike that has easily removeable wheels. If I can't remove the wheel, it is unlikely to fit inside my small car. Thanks! I think you are talking about a "quick-release" mechanism. Yes, the majority of bikes will have the ability to quickly remove the front (or rear) wheels without any tools, especially if you buy it from an actual bike shop. Enjoy riding! Most bikes with 26" or 700C wheels now have quick release front wheels. However, if you live in New York they are trying to outlaw quick releases so if you live there CONTACT YOUR LAWMAKER! 27 years in the industry Yes, just about every bike these days has a "quick release" front wheel. In fact, I haven't seen a new bike without one in years. |
