OK to store bike hanging from hooks? |
I know they make the hooks to put in the rafters of a garage to hang a bike upside down on. Seems like the weight of the whole bike would be on two small spots on each rim. Will rims bend slightly with time ? Sure over years of time. If you really don't plan to use your bikes for years at a clip, then why bother having them? At least that's the way I look at it. Besides, how much does your bike weigh? 25-30lbs? OK, divide that by two and then remember that each time you take it down and put it up, it's going to be a different spot on each rim. Then think about how much weight each rim actually supports when you ride around on it, not to mention the amount it takes for even a small impact say from a rock or a pothole? I'd say it's fine up there. ~Just My 0.02 Source(s): Been around XC racing since 1992. Always hang my bikes from the ceiling by their rims. I have 35 bmx bikes and every one of them hangs by the rubber coated hooks,No the rims will not bend over time. I have had bikes hanging from those hooks as long as I can remember and never have I came across a tweeked rim due to hanging them. The force on the wheels is tiny compared to the force on the wheels when you are sitting on the bike and riding! It works fine. Had hanging bikes for 30 years - no problems, still ride regularly. The wheels are fine and its ok to hang them by the hooks. only if your rims and spokes are made of clay . |
