Can u tell what type of bike pump i need? |
my bike doesnt have the common type of valve, it has like a metal thing with a little screw on top which u loosen to allow air in. nothing comes of. It doesnt fit the standard bike pumps. i hear a lot of racing bikes and old mountain bikes have this valve. The bike store people want to know what type so they can get me a valve the valve is a presta-valve. you can find a small hand pump or a larger two cylinder pump at just about any bike shop It's a presta, but that doesn't matter. Buy a universal bike pump that can handle schrader or presta. Get thee to your local bike shop and ride safe! It's called a Presta valve, standard fit on road bikes with thinner tyres and tubes. A standard frame-fit pump for a road bike (or a mini pump) will be able to handle a Presta valve. My Zefal HP-X has a reversible head which allows it to inflate either Presta or Schraeder (car type) valves. If you have a pump which only works Schraeder valves then there is a small adaptor available which screws onto the top of the Presta valve and presents a Schraeder valve head to the pump. This will enable you to use a Schraeder only pump, or a car foot pump (please, not a garage pump as the small volume of your bike tyre will fill with air VERY quickly, even though the pressure is 3-4x that you need in a car tyre).
