I am looking to some mountain biking, thoughts on this bike for starters at $269. I just wanted something for a trail and to ride to store....just dont want it to break right away
The Alite 100 is a good bike for the money but it is NOT a mountain bike. Based on your explanation of how you want to ride it is a good choice.
This type of bike is called an atb, an "all terrain bike", or occasionally a "sport" bike. It is intended for on the road and off road on groomed trails, perhaps up to mild rain ruts. It is definitely not for downhilling or technical trails.

Mirage.. is right this is not a mountain bike. Check out the KHS "FXT" it is slightly more money, but you will be much happier in the end.
