What type of Bike should I purchase~~~ HELP!!!? |
Ok...I'm interested in buying a nice quality Bike (not the throw away junk bikes that Kmart, Walmart and other low end stores sell. Having said that, I will not be using the bike for racing or mountain riding, just everyday riding mostly on flat/easy terrain. I like the style of the "Comfort bikes" but like what the Hybrids have to offer. The Comfort bikes are more expensive and heavier than the Hybrid Bikes. Trek now sells a Hybrid bike that rides like a comfor bike so I really like those. I just need some advice. Thus far I've looked at the Raleigh and Trek brands... The Prices are falling anywhere between $299.00-$350.00 so far. Any other suggestions? Brands? Price Range? Style? Thanks Well, I can only speak (write) about the Trek. I have one. It is not a 鈥渃omfort鈥? It is a mountain bike. And I enjoy riding it around town. I feel more secure with the somewhat wider tires on wet pavement. I live in Missouri. We have the 鈥淜aty Trail鈥? A bike trail this is about 170 miles long. One way. See just about every brand and style of bike you can imagine on it. Have never met anyone that does not like their Trek. Regardless of the style. And numerous people ride just street style bikes. Rides comfortable. Shifts very smoothly. And is extremely reliable. Just my experience. never mind the cheap stores that get retarted bikes in,go to your trek dealer, let him get you set up the way that will fit all your needs!!! I prefer a mountain bike, even though I ride a lot on flat surfaces, too. The most important thing about a bike in your price range are the components... shifters, deraileurs, brakes, shocks, etc. Mountain bikes typically offer more gears and a wider gear selection than comfort-type bikes. Also, front shocks are a big advantage on most any terrain. Take a look at GT bikes. They make some cheap-o types that are sold at Wal-Mart, etc.; however, they also make better models that you can find at your local bike shop. Raleigh also makes a good bike for the buck. I don't really care for Trek bikes, as they are too heavy. I agree with all these answers. The saying "you get what you pay for" is applied here without a doubt. You just have to decide on what level of bike you need. My advise is to go to your local bike shop instead of a big-box store. They'll help you out and show you what your paying for vs the others. Ask them about the components and differences between the models. I ride a Giant and my wife has a Trek both are great bikes for what we use them for. Plus, a dealer will fit you to the right size frame which is also important. $350 should buy you a decent bike. |
