I need a bike!? |
, but am interested in something that can get me to the local run around stores as well as some light trail riding. My fiance likes to mountain bike and owns a cannondale, and we live in Florida where the trails very greatly. Any suggestions on a type of bike? Anyone live in Florida and mountain bike that can recommend whether or not a hybrid can handle Florida trails? It all depends on the trails. Mud and very loose dirt/sand would prohibit narrow, hard tires. Mountain bikes tend to be stronger to handle jumps etc. They can be a lot harder to ride on pavement. If you're riding hard packed bike trails like converted railroad beds and even grass you could get by with narrower, smooth road tires between 32 and 28mm width. Try to determine what kind of riding you'll be doing the majority of the time. Go to a bike shop where you can test ride the bikes and where they put them together properly. I disagree about the hybrid not being adequate for road or trail. I have a hybrid and it's excellent for the road especially since I have high pressure road tires and a narrow saddle. It also handles very well on hard packed trails. It is not suitable for mountain bike trails. Check out KHS, Kona, or Specialized. They all make good bikes with many different options (and prices) to suit your needs. Ride safe! http://www.specialized.com I suggest a mountain bike bought at a knowledgeable bike shop. They can fit you to a proper bike that will meet your needs. A hybrid seems to be a good idea except that it is neither good on roads nor trails except for really light duty riding. They concentrate on comfort for beginners. A seasoned cyclist will find it uncomfortable for longer rides because of the soft seats (Which cause chafing in the seat area). You can also mount slick tires on MTBs if you find that trail riding isn't your cup of tea. There are a few types I could reccomend to you. Contact me @ midtowismemphis@yahoo.com if you like. |
