How do you what size of bike to buy your child?

I have a five year old, who's just shy of 4' tall. it's to be a Christmas gift, so a surprise -- I can't just take her to the store and have her try some out.

Measure her inseam. When you go to buy the bike, have the salesperson find the right size based on that measurement. Try to find one with an adjustable seat height and she'll get more use out of it.
A Small One.
You Dont Want To Bye Your Child. Anything He Or She Cant Handle. Or Get Hurt On.
Sounds like a 16", a reg bmx bike that all the kids are on are 20",
Just have her sit on the seat of the bike. If she can reach the ground comfortably, then thats the size for her. You might want to get one a little bit to big...cause shes gonna grow!
look at wat size your child is and let them test the bike out yh
