How do I keep my bike rack from getting stolen? |
I have a trunk rack. I don't see any way to lock it and keep it from getting stolen. Do you take it off and store it in your trunk every time you ride? Get a long cable lock (Thule do a good one that's 180 cm long). Make sure the cable is of a long but thin type. Put the lock end inside one side of the boot (trunk) lid or the hatchback door. Extend the cable across and through the rack and the bike frame(s). Tie a loose knot in the other end of the cable and put this inside the boot (trunk) or door on the other side. Close the lid or door and lock it. The rubber door / lid seals will allow the cable to pass without doing any damage. That's it! Secured! Some bikerack manufacturers have dedicated cables of this kind. They have a big nylon ball on each end. In practice I've never had a rack stolen (and I use mine all over Europe, including the heart of some big and nasty cities). Source(s): http://82.145.131.163/thule/productdetai... I always throw it in the trunk. It only takes a couple of minutes. lock it I don't remember ever taking mine off the car...they are cheap enough so that most people wouldn't bother. If you live in NYC or something, that might be a different story. |
