How to clean rust from my bike? and prevent more from happening? |
I stored my motorcycle in a spare bedroom in my house we use for storage. I couldnt believe it when I saw more rust!!! Help please. Most is around the bolts and there is some on my brake pedal. You should use a find grade sandpaper to remove the rust and use a rust inhibiting spray paint (like rustoleum) to cover it. If it is on a surface you don't want to paint, you will have to keep it protected with silicone 000 - or - 0000 fine steel wool. It will not scratch the chrome if you are gentle and take your time. Also removes over spray from glass Wax the chrome it'll stay away 15+ years auto customizer Some of the best rust eater I've seen is stuff called gun scrub it's in a can. You can find it at a gun shop (12 bucks a can). To prevent rust, spray on a product called ultra-lite made by CRC. You can use any rust inhibitor, but CRC makes great industrial grade chemicals. You may be able to get it off the shelf at a Fastenal in your town. Do this, go get some 0 grade steel wool and some wd-40. That is the most logical thing to do for the type of rust I bet you're talking about. be careful with the gun scrub. It is some bad a** stuff. Doesn't get along with paint. Use naval jelly to remove the rust, polish with metal polish and polishing wheel, cover it with spray clear coat paint (low temp areas only) 4/0 Steel wool and Mothers metal polish. I'd had fair results coating chrome and aluminum with Auto Glass. I live on the coast. |
