My motorcycle doesn't run? |
I have a Honda Nighthawk. I think it's a '97. The bike ran awesome and then I left for Iraq for a year. Yes I am very stupid and did not put fuel stabilizer in the tank. The bike was stored inside. When I returned I tried to start the bike up. It didn't start up. I tried to jump the battery and that didn't solve the problem. My buddies told me that the fuel evaporated and now I have to get the fuel injectors serviced. Is that true? Also I'm gonna store it for the winter before I try to get it running again. I notice that there was a huge oil leak under the bike after I tried to start it. What is the best process for storing it for the winter and getting it running in the spring? Always give year, make, engine size and model # when asking questions. Nighthawks came in 250, 450, 550, 650, 700 and 750cc's. Nighthawks never had fuel injectors, but the carburetors will need to be serviced after sitting for a year. Here's a winter storage guide - http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/maintenan... you are going to have to flush the fuel tank and put in fresh fuel, gas over 10 months old is no good! the injectors maybe alright, just run some cleaner through them :) Just take it to a mechanic, I'm sure he'll get it fixed for you. The red die in the fuel caused the gas to varnish up the inside of the tank and injection/carbs. You should have put (Stabilizer) in the tank or drained the gas out. So now what you need to do is. Go to a marine supply store and buy this fuel conditioner, it makes any old gas work again. Ask the guy at the marine store what it's called, it's in a blue bottle. If this does not solve your problem, you will need to take the bike to Honda or a MC Mechanic. I don't believe that year had fuel injection. IF it's a carb model, and you didn't drain the fuel out of the carb, it probably turned to varnish in your idle jet. Remove idle jet, get a large wire brush, pull one bristle from it with needle-nose pliers. Use this by hand, spinning it like a drill bit to clean out idle jet. Learned this working at a bike shop many years ago........has worked many times for me. |
