Shed dilemma!? |
Do i get the shed or dont i? I want a shed to store the bikes and barbeque in. So it doesnt rust over winter or get pinched. I need a concrete base, but every builder is far too expensive. Do i just get the shed? Don't lay plywood on the ground, as another poster suggested. It will soak up moisture, warp and mold within weeks. Cheapest: buy paving stones (flat concrete squares). Remove the grass from the surface before placing the stones, or they will shift and rock as the grass and roots decay underneath. A couple bags of small gravel or sand will help to level the surface under the stones. Best to check with your homeowners rules, if you have them. A cheap, ugly or 'unapproved' shed, regardless of what ugly things are being concealed, may violate the conditions. You could be forced to take it down and pay a fine. My (wooden) shed is just on the lawn. Never thought about a base for it. You could put it on some bricks? I have a small metal shed for garden tools etc. which comes complete with a floor. It has sliding doors at the front which lock with a padlock. It has no windows so I'm not sure if it qualifies as a shed but it definately does the job and wasn't expensive. after you have erected the metal shed you could lay some paving slabs in it as a base it would work out cheaper than a concrete one A cheaper alternative is to lay some flags (paving slabs) then put shed on these. What you are wanting is to keep the honest people honest. Sheds work without a floor, but anyone can just turn it over to get at what is inside. You can always get a floor built later. You could get treated plywood and lay it down under the shed and that will keep the moisture out. you might also put plastic under the ply wood if you really wanted to keep it dry . |
