Can your ride a sportbike in the winter?

Now obviously I know that you can't ride in snow or icy conditions but say it is a sunny day out in November, I put on as much clothes as possible to stay warm and decide to just go out for a spin locally.....would this be doable? Cause I really want a bike but to only be able to ride it for a couple of months seems depressing. Even if its a short local ride, that would still be awesome. Plus, I don't understand how the bike is supposed to be stored away for about 5 months without ever turning the engine on. Isn't that bad? So my question is if the bike can run in winter and be "rideable". Not for long distance trips but you know just to mess around a little to keep that itch satisfied. Thanks.

I live in Colorado, and ride every month of the year. I can't ride every week of the year, but every month of the year is definately possible as long as you dress approriately.

We get snow here, occasionally alot of snow, but it also tends to melt off within a few days.

I find that down to about 40 degrees, riding is not too bad with just normal gloves, jacket, etc. Below that, and you need to start thinking about long underwear, even heavier winter gloves, an insulated bandana if you don't have a full face helment.

I do know some people that go the extra distance, and put heated grips on, have electric clothes that run off a connector on the bike. I haven't needed to go that far, but it is certainly possible.to take it as far as you want. Source(s): 12 month a year rider in Colorado
You can ride 12 months out of the year here in Phoenix.
Heck Yes lots of riders ride here in winter, ever heard of bike week in Daytona Beach? I can remember my brother putting tire chains on his Indian M C in the winter in Pittsburgh, Pa.in the 1950's. Ice claws on his boots helped too , he rode in one or two inches of snow! Then when he rode to work, if it snowed during the day Dad and I would take the pickup and a plank for a ramp and go bring him and the bike home...
If you want to ride year round move to Florida!
riding in snow & ice ....yes you can

as for storing a bike over winter.. go here & it tells you the best way to store it..

Hell yeah!
And it would be better to take the bike for a short ride every couple weeks than to store it for the winter. - even if you winterize it with fuel stabilizer. The tires dry out and the battery can go bad if ya don't ride.
Just layer up and get some good insulated gortex riding gloves. It's nice to have some small sadlebags or a backpack or some place to keep your outter layers when you stop at say a bar or restaraunt.
If your hands get cold, just reach down and warm them up on the cylinders.
One thing to watch out for though is sand (If they sand the roads there when it snows) After the snow melts there will be sand on corners and in intersections and it can be really slippery.. If the temperature is near freezing be extra careful on bridges and overpasses. Sometimes they can freeze even when the temperature is above freezing, and the morning dew or water from car exhausts can turn into ice.
Have fun!
Ride safe
I live in Seattle and ride year-round.
