What are the advantages of having a motorcycle?

what is the appeal? you can't store anything in it. its smaller. rly other than its looks, i dont see how having a bike is better than having a car. can someone help me out here?

have someone give u a ride...preferably a sane rider, and u will get bit by the 'bug'.
everything is different on a bike. the view, sights, sounds and smells are all different. u cant feel thermals in a car. u will on a bike. bikes are cheaper to insure, maintain, and run vs a car. u have manuverability that is unmatched by anything that has more than 2 wheels, u can get into places that a car cant get into. what will fit 1 car, u can fit at least 2 bikes.
obvious cons: vunerability. only 1/4 the size of a car, in heavy traffic, extremely hard to spot. u wind up getting into a car's blind spot alot sooner when passing. carrying capacity is limited to how much the saddle bags will hold, or how big of azz she has...but there is some exceptions to the 'rule'. i know a guy on harley chat group forum that can pack a s-hitload of gear on his 1200 sportster...enough for an overnite camping trip. it has to be seen to be belived on how much that dude can pack on his scoot.
u are also completely exposed to the weather. that sun can turn u into a boiled lobster look in a few hours, getting caught in the rain feels like u just rode into a huge shotblaster. impacts from certain bugs, sand, and small rocks hurt like a b-itch. sand, gravel, tar snakes, potholes, and oil in the turns can and will take u down in a heartbeat....and if u go down, u gonna get hurt if u dont wear the right gear.
twisty roads can be a hell of alotta fun on a bike. u can hit the corners 20 mph faster on a bike vs car....faster still if u have a sport bike and a big enough set of balls.
Better gas mileage; easier parking; more fun to ride.
Much higher gas mileage, wind in your hair and bugs in your teeth!
well, it's fun.
and, if you don't wear a helmet, the organ donor program is waiting for you.
usually more fun than driving in a car. you use a lot less gas, you can white line in traffic (in Calif) so you can get places faster, you can always get saddle bags or wear a backpack to carry things. or if you have a rider behind you they can carry things. To me the appeal is the wind in your face, the sound of the bike, and on our old bike i would fall asleep on the back it is just so relaxing. I was raised riding dirt bikes and married a man that rides.
I have both. The bike is for fun and the car is for basic transportation. That probably doesn't make sense to you either.Does it?
Hi,

advantages of having a motorcycle? Well, there are a number...

1, getting through traffic. If streets or highways are jammed with traffic it is possible for a motorcycle to keep going by squeezing through the gaps.

2, Sheer exhilaration! There is little to beat the joy of accelerating on the open road with a powerful motorcycle between your legs. Most motorcycles will out accelerate the majority of cars. Top speeds are not normally an option these days, as there are blanket speed limits on roads in almost every country.

3, Cost of motoring. In the USA gasoline costs are still very low (Yes, they are, in comparison) but in Europe gas (petrol) costs are high. The increased miles per gallon can make a long trip prohibitive in a car, especially a large engined one, The low fuel consumption in motorcycles is definitely an advantage.

4, Parking. In many cities, worldwide, parking spaces are at a premium and it can be virtually impossible to park your car. The small size of a motorcycle makes parking very much easier and you can squeeze one in places where it would be impossible for a car.

5, No need for air conditioning in the summer.

The above are some advantages, there are, of course some disadvantages, which you may already have thought of...

1, In the winter it can be cold (read freezing!)

2, You are more vulnerable on a motorcycle, as car drivers seem to have a blind spot when it comes to seeing motorcycles approaching, so you need to be more careful.

3, Acceptability. Often people look down on people who ride motorcycles and you may get tarnished, unfairly, with a 'Hell's Angel' image.

4, As with (2) if you are involved in an accident you are far more likely to suffer injury if on a motorcycle.

5, Load carrying is limited.

For me the few disadvantages of owning and riding a motorcycle do not outway the very definite advantages, but you would be wise to examine all the pros and cons before committing yourself to motorcycle ownership. Not everyone enjoys the experience.

Best of all worlds is to have both...the motorcycle for the convenience, the car for when you need to travel as a group, or for big shopping expeditions, etc.

Whichever you choose, good luck,
