Should I get rid of the petrol (gas) guzzling 4WD (SUV)?

Our family has a large Mitsubishi Pajero. It is a very large car. It now costs us over $100 Australian Dollars to fill up. We are thinking of getting rid of it. My husband can ride his bike to work or the bus. We live within walking distance of the primary school. The only problem is how to get our 10 year old to her private school (about 5 kilometers away) and how to get two of them to karate lessons 3 times a week. Other than that I think we would be happy without the car. The grocery store either delivers or is in walking distance.

What do you think? Should we get rid of the petrol (gas) guzzler and go green? Should we ride our bicylces and walk and bus it where we can and take taxis only when necessary? What other options are there for a family of 6 to get around?

USA - I have a ford Explorer and a Mercury 2001 Sable. The gas mileage between them is unbelievable.

on the Explorer I get about 15 MPG. With the Mercury Sable I get about 24.89 MPG.

I stopped using the explorer and use the Sable most of the time. Gas bills went from $340 per month down to about $180. big difference. I will be getting rid of my Explorer in December.
yes just get rid of it
no ,your family with this number and life style need this vehicle ,imagine in emmergency case ,what would you do ,i meant a case of medical needs.so i am worried about the little kids walking in hot or cold days .if you can keep that nice suv who knows it might save some one .you can change the engine to diesel .ok limit your needs to that suv.by 50 percent if that would keep your budget on a good record.good luck
