Okay. Back to the gas thing.. How does one "drive less"??? |
Most people I know drive only when necessary and most people I know drive used, older cars... they're small cars so do get better gas-mileage than most SUV's but, still, they're not priuses.. I drive only to the grocery store, the bank, the doctor's office, and I always try to add more than one or two errands on to each trip. There is no busline within walking distance and I cannot ride a bike. I run a home-based business so don't have to drive to or for work. Yet, the jerk-in-chief is telling me to drive less or buy a new car. If I could afford a new car, i would buy one!!! How do I drive less? If you're combining trips and own a small car, you're doing all you can. The only other possible thing you could do is if someone else is heading in that direction, carpool, but that isn't always practical. Sadly, advice like "drive less" is heard by those of us already doing what we can, and ignored by those SUV drivers who didn't care in the first place. 1. Park car. 2. Throw away keys. 3. Switch to online banking. 4. Move next to a grocery store. 5. Select a doctor near your home. 6. Buy a bicycle. Problem solved, dirving is zero. It conserns: 1.cruising 2."Sunday drives" 3. driving long distances for pleasure (like from California to Las Vegas). I think you've done a great job adjusting to the climbing price of gas. Things are done differently than they used to be at my house, too and like you, mass transit isn't an option for me and doing some driving is unavoidable. I have a child at college about five hours drive away from home and she will have to be brought home at the end of the school year; there is no way to get all of her things home otherwise. I wish that the trip would be one I could look forward to without feeling guilty and without just about going into shock when I realize how much the gasoline for the trip will cost me. I wonder how much fuel that AirForce One burns per trip...maybe he could hitchhike instead? Consider bumming rides from friends, family or neighbors. Your gas bill goes down, theirs don't. Hitchhiking is in vogue again. Really, you could combine your trips and a neighbors to the grocery if you want trade off every other week. Make a rule, only drive to the grocery once a week. Good luck. I have considered buying everything on-line. It's usually cheaper and no sales tax. Many items are free shipping also. We the Drivers in America are in so much rush.. Slow down, don't race from stop light to stop light. 3 years ago ,I drove like a *** from hell. One week I drove speed limit to work and back home .. no running red light.. Drove like an old fart.. Now my Gas-Mileage is 25 mi. per. gal.. Before I was getting 18 mi. per. gal. 7 mi. per. gal. more. As of today in Lsa Vegas is over $ 3.00 a gal.. Still people are driving like gas is selling for $ 1.00 per. gal. Gas price are up because we drive our car me,me,me I,I,I and myself.. If gas goes up to $ 5.00 a gal.. I Will be saving money... Ha, Ha, Ha,!!!! I am caregiver for my Mother so we do not go much. Am near bus-line and could walk the three long blocks to store, take taxi home. I just traded my wonderful car down to a newer smaller car. Which means if I want to travel now, I will have to fly. Senior Citizens apply for senior travel to appointments here. Of course, carpooling. BUT.......have you noticed the trend to "keep people home?" Such as "smokin' laws",now the high gas... Makes one wonder why the powers that be are so concerned w/people gathering. Think they want you just sitting in front of the boob-tube to indoctrinate you. |
