Is this a good idea?

I am going to transfer to a university for the fall, and want to quit my pizza delivery job, and sell my car and just ride my bike a couple of miles to get to school. I need to lose weight, and it will be tight not working, but I will have more time on my hands for school and activities and since gas is so high why even bother? Well I will be able to pay my few bills (rent, food and phone bill) with grants, loans and the little savings that I have. Whar do you guys think? Have you done this kind of thing before? The grocery store is accross the street, and any student can ride the bus for free so you can get to the mall etc. Bills would be approx 700/mo

Sounds to me like you have a handle on things. Do you have laundry facilities nearby? You don't want to try hauling your laundry on the bus with you. Also, does it get cold and snowy where you're going to school? If you can handle the laundry and walking to the bus stop in the snow (if applicable), I'd say you've got a good plan. I've always thought it was kind of foolish for students to have cars when they live near campus and/or the bus is free. Usually you have to pay a lot to park on campus and sometimes it costs extra for a parking space at your apartment. Also, pizza delivery is UNBELIEVEABLY bad for cars. Stop-and-go driving makes the engine run hot and wears out the brakes quickly. I bet when you factor in wear and tear on your car you don't make nearly as much as you think you make delivering pizzas.

Budget a little extra money for shoes (they will wear out faster) and go for it!
if you don't eat that will cut your expense by say 700 a month...and then you can pay bills etc.....I think you can make it if you try.
it would be a really good idea if you get a job walking dogs or something outdoors where you wont need a car. then you will get exercise, money from a job, and the money from your car. but make sure you wont need a car in the near future. if you do, you might be better off keeping the one you have than buying a new one soon.
Sounds like a GREAT plan! Get a handle on costs, get in shape, lose weight. Just watch out for the cagers!
Damn good idea as long as schoolwork doesn't suffer. Did pretty much the same while I was in college.
I was a bootblack and hitchhiked to school. Really.
My opinion is that it sounds great and that you should go for it. Try it for a month or two and if you feel like you can not handle meaning that you need extra money well just try to get a part time job maybe at the university that youy are transfering too. Good luck! let us know if you do go for it and is effective.
