Cycle storage for domestic garages.?

I have just built a new garage & am determined to try and kit it out properly and avoid the usual dumping ground. Has anyone good ideas on storing cycles - we have up to six to find a space for plus car, motor bike and other normal bits and pieces - so space is tight. It needs to be accessable also. Not much to ask is it?

Build a bike shed
Do you remember seeing the old clothes horses in old houses the ones slung from the roof on pulleys. You could do a thing like that for each bike so you can take down only one at a time or if you prefer in pairs. Cant do much more than that due to the weight. Or if you have space they can be stored vertically by mounting a bicycle rack on the wall. Personally i prefer the hung from the ceiling idea. You can get the pulleys and cleats from B&Q or for a much better selection go to local ship shandlers. I am about to do one in my garage for same reason.
I don't think you can improve much on bicycle mounting wall-brackets, it's a chore to put them up but it keeps them off of the floor and makes them easy to reach.
Hi there,

Yes, I know the problem too well. I find by fixing hooks on the wall that I got from Halfords are ideal and gets them out of the way while being easy to lift off the hooks when they are needed.
In Argos (a shop) They do these bars that go on the wall and poles come out and cycles stay on them. They sell them different sizes for amount of cycles or size of the cycle
The bicycle hooks etc are my first choice, but failing that, if a lot of the "bit and pieces" are rarely used, you could possibly build a half second level in the garage, depending on the vertical space available of course, as my dad did, a lot of his stuff that he rarely used got stored on that, accessable via a ladder. kinda like a huge shelf. That would leave more ground space for the bikes :) Best of luck, hope you manage that trick that so few of us can achieve
