I want to buy a high-end bicycle. Do you know of any San Francisco bicycle stores that allow test-rides?


I really want to purchase a high-end bicycle. I am not familiar enough with them to purchase a used bike, so I'd rather go for a brand new one. Having never even ridden a high-end bike before, I'd like to take one for a test-drive. Do you know of any FRIENDLY, PATIENT and NON-PUSHY bike stores in the San Francisco Bay Area that would allow me to test-drive a bicycle and help me in selecting one that would be good for me?

any decent bike shop will let you take a bike for a ride (they will keep your credit card & ID while you ride)

Though I do not know any shops in the bay area I know a man who will, as I have raced several time is san fran and always deal with the same bike rental store for my service needs!
ask for the German guy (I can never remember names) at bay city bikes - actually try renting a high end Giant from him for a day to see what a god bike should feel like so you have a comparsisson

I don't think that any bike shop anywhere would let someone just take a bike for a test drive .I mean someone who was dishonest could steal it It's not like someone could go with you as you tested it.Unless you pay for it first but then they could not sell it as new if you chamged your mind.It's not like test driving a car.

D&D Cycles on Balboa St are pretty easy going.
More patience than the bigger stores. Willing to share their knowledge.

But bigger stores have more selection.

They just need your license and credit card.
Wear comfortable clothes/shoes for the test ride.
A friend tole me of a whacko who came in to a store wanting to test ride a bike...he was wearing roller blades.
