Converting a bicycle into a gas-powered motorized bicycle?


I have heard about people doing this in Brazil. I was wondering if anyone has any links or free instructions on how to do this without having to buy a "kit" online. Can I not do this with some house hold items (i.e. a motor from a lawnmower, weed whacker, etc) and getting some parts from locals supply stores?
