The following transaction occurs: Price:$120.00 GST: $8.40 PST:$ 6.42 Total: $ 134.82 The PST is calculated after GST is added to the price. What is the rate of PST. Hi, The price plus the general sales tax is $120 + $8.40 = $128.40. Then if you have to pay a certain percentage of $128.40 and it comes out to be another $6.42, you can find that percentage by dividing 6.42/128.40 = .05. The decimal .05 is equivalent to 5%. My mom spent many hours with me when I was little so I understand what you are doing.) the answer is 5% You divide 134.82 by 128.40(which is the price with just the GST) and you get 1.05. multiplying 128.40 by 1.05 is the same as adding 5% (120.00 + 8.40) x = PST 130.4 x = 6.42 x= 0.05 |
