Diode or line breaker? |
i'm building a generator powered by a bicycle that stores energy in a battery. however the battery tries to power the generator. this makes it spin opposite of the way it should. i need to overcome this and make it turn the way the wheel is turning (opposite of what the battery makes it do) maybe you connected the battery in reverse polarity, and yes a diode will be needed, be sure you have the correct rating too. I would try the diode first. Use a diode to separate the generator from the battery. This is a very common practice for isolating power and load devices. A diode used in this configuration is called a "steering diode", or a blocking diode. It needs to be rated for at least twice the voltage going to the battery, and at least twice the current (in amps) that the generator is producing. Crazy Girl, Use a diode. Be sure to put a switch and a fuse in that circuit. Diodes leak a little and if you get a failure, I'd hate you to burn the house down. |
