the following equation: R = x2- 200x How many bicycles must be sold to produce revenue of $12,500? Please help the answer is 250 bikes first you move the 12,500 over to the right to make x2-200x-12500=0 then you factor it (x )(x ) to figure out the numbers you guess and check. Since both 12500 and 200 in the equation are negative you know there will be a negative and a positive number when you factor. I found the numbers to be 250 and 50 (x-250)(x+50)=0 the x values come out to 250 and -50. You cant have minus revenue to 250 is the answer. then you check by plugging 250 in 12500= 250 times 250 minus 200 times 250 12500= 62500 - 50000 12500 = 12500 the check proves the answer correct please vote me as best answer! x^2 - 200x = 12500 or X^2 - 200x -12500 = 0 factor: (x + 50)(x - 250) = 0 either (x + 50) = 0, x = -50 cannot be negative so (x - 250) = 0, x = 250 proof: 250^2 - 200* 250 62500 - 50000 = 12500 left = right 12500 = x^2 -200 0 = x^2 -200 -12500 0 = (x -250)(x + 50) x = 250 or x = -50 but since you can't sell a negative number of bikes the answer is 250 bikes must be sold |
