Looking for right size and make of bicycle for a 5'1" female....? |
I know certain makes tailor certain frames for women. My wife is 5'1", and about 128 pounds, with obviously short legs. I assume she'll get the smallest frame size, however I wonder if anyone out there has a frame make, model, size suggestion? Eventually, we'll go have her sized at a shop, but wanted to ask here first. I'm a 5'1'' female and I have a Specialized road bike designed specifically for women. It has that "girl bike" diagonal top tube on it (I have no idea what the model name is). Since I'm short-waisted it was particularly important that I minimize the distance between the seat and the handlebars. My handlebars can also adjust so that I sit more upright or with my trunk more parallel to the ground. Currently I have them in the most upright position. I'm training for a long, multi-day ride this summer and I intend to get the bike professionally fitted ($$$ unfortunately) and when I do they may suggest I ride more parallel to the ground, but I don't know. I've been very happy with it, although I've only put about 500 miles on it in the past three years. I believe it cost $800, on the low end of road bikes. It's heavier than my husband's bike but it still has a carbon fork which I think is pretty good on a bike at that price. Good luck. when you do go to a shop, pickone of the better ones in the area, and do it on a day when there isn`t much traffic so that the sales people have time to do the job right. pick the unit that suits and fits the rider to their anatomy, not just what the salesperson is going to get the highest commision on. if you are not satisfied, walk away but return later and buy or order from a different person.... getting a proper fit is just as important as buying new shoes, if it doesnt fit properly you will not use it or wear it at all and thats not why you got involved in the first place. enjoy the ride. biker family of 25 for 20 years. |
